METHI PURI

Winter season is one of the best season to get fresh leafy 🍃 vegetables. Methi ( Fenugreek) leaves are easily available in abundant in this season. Fenugreek or Methi leaves have a great impact on our health from controlling sugar to digestion and weight loss though list is endless. Methi leaves offers lost of health benefits to our body.

Methi puris or Puffed Indian flatbreads are like by most Indian household. It can be serve for breakfast, brunch, lunch,dinner with any spicy curry.


We need fresh methi leaves to make these puris,one can even make with kasuri methi also . Best part of this recipe is puris are made with combination of wheat flour and minimum spices.

INGREDIENTS:--




  1. Wheat flour -- 2 cups

  2. Fresh methi leaves --1cup

  3. Red chilli powder -- 1 tsp

  4. Cumin seeds ( jeera )--1tsp

  5. Salt -- to taste

  6. Water -- 2 1/2

  7. Oil -- 2tsp

  8. Oil -- for deep frying

METHOD :--

  1. Clean, wash thoroughly and cut methi leaves roughly. Keep aside.

  2. Take a pan add 2 tsp of oil . Temper it with cumin seeds. Now add fresh methi leaves, red chilli powder and salt.

  3. As methi leaves will release water . Keep stirring on medium to low flame until the water evaporates.

  4. As soon as water evaporates add two and half cup water in the pan. Lets the whole boil for next two to four minutes.

  5. Switch off the flame and transfer it in a bowl. Let's it cool down completely.



1.Take a big bowl to knead the dough.


2.Add wheat flour. Knead the dough with pre prepared methi leaves. Use the water for kneading the dough as required. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes .



  1. Make small balls from the dough.

  2. Now take a ball spread bit of oil on rolling board and roll the puris with the help of rolling pin.

  3. At the same time take a heavy bottom pan or kadai add sufficient oil to fry the puris.

  4. Heat the oil . Take a tiny piece of dough and add it to oil if it comes up quickly then the oil is hot enough for frying puris.

  5. Now gently slide the rolled puris in medium to hot oil.

  6. Fry methi puris till they are puff,crisp and golden from both the side.

  7. Remove the puris from oil in a kitchen paper towel to absorb the extra oil .

  8. Methi puri is ready to serve.

  9. Serve hot methi puris with your choice of curry. Here I have served it with aloo matar ki sabzi ( potatoes and peas spicy curry).
