NARKOLI CHITOL MACH |CHITOL MACH IN COCONUT CURRY

Chitol mach is also known as "Knife fish ". Chitol mach taste awesome. Fish lovers have a huge crush on this fish since ages. In bengali household Chitol mach is often cooked with Chitol peti ( belly part of the fish). Here in this recipe I have used round piece instead of belly part and cooked in coconut curry.


Some of the special recipes of Chitol mach are -- Chitol Macher Muitha,Chitol Macher Rosha,Chitol Macher Korma, Chitol Macher Jhol.

Let's cook this delicious and mouthwatering delicacy.


INGREDIENTS :--




  1. Chitol mach -- 1 piece

  2. Onion -- 1( chopped)

  3. Coconut milk -- 1/2 cup

  4. Tomato --1

  5. Green chilli -- 2(to taste)

  6. Ginger -- 1 inch

  7. Poppy seeds -- 1tsp

  8. Fresh coconut -- 1 1/2 tsp

  9. Turmeric -- 1 tsp

  10. Red chilli powder -- 1/2 tsp

  11. Salt to taste

  12. Jeera ( whole) -- 1/2 tsp

  13. Mustard oil -- 1 tbsp


METHOD :--

  1. Clean the fish thoroughly. Marinate with salt and turmeric. Keep aside.





  1. Take a mixer jar add roughly cut tomato,green chilli, ginger, poppy seeds,fresh coconut and make fine paste out of it. Keep aside.



  1. Now take a heavy bottom pan or wok. Add mustard oil. When the oil is enough heated add marinated fish. Keep the heat at medium.

  2. Fry the fish piece till golden brown as shown in the pic.



  1. Remove the fish from the kadai.

  2. Now temper the remaining oil with jeera and add chopped onion. When onion trun translucent add paste. Keep stirring. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Add dash of water to avoid burning of masala.

  3. As soon as when oil ooze out of from masala add coconut milk and give a nice mix. and then add fish. Cook for 2 to 4 min or till done .Heat should be at lowest.

  4. Adjust the consistency of gravy it. It should be neither runny nor thick.

  5. Adjust the salt.



  1. Narkoli Chitol Mach is ready to serve.

  2. Serve it with hot steam rice. Enjoy the meal.
